New words

The common expression often heard in my freshman year (1963) was “faked my johns.” It meant to fool someone. For example, if a pass receiver got away from a defender and made a successful catch, then the outplayed defender might say, “He faked my johns.” A spectator might describe it as a “john faking move.” It really does not seem to make much sense now, but it was heard repeatedly in daily conversation.
