Memories

Vegas Night/Casino Night

Anyone else remember when we had a casino night for fun in the gymnasium, and Fr Mike ran the chuck a luck game and there were a whole bunch other games too.

Spiritual Director

We all were assigned a spiritual director, someone we could go and talk to when we had a problem, or just wanted to talk to about things, questions about life, but they were there for us.

Fr Mike oversleeps

Did anyone every keep a track how many times Fr Mike when it was his turn
to wake us up, overslept, I know it wasnt that many but it happen on several occasions, and then we all had to rush out of bed, get dressed, etc etc and still get to our first class on time.

I can even remember that someone went and gave him the wakeup call as he forgot about us, or maybe was givingi us a little extra to sleep in a few more minutes.

Who could forget Sundays and we would sleep in and then we would have a
brunch.

My mom sending me too much money

I wont forget my mom sent me a money order which was suppose to be for something else and sent me too much money, After i got it in the mail i had called and told her and she said to keep it, it was ok.

I took everyone to the PL and it was my treat candy, soda and whatever they wanted and a few games of pinball.

Going home for the holidays

Who could forget having to pack to leave for the christmas break and at the same time hope we were going to get a half a day so we could leave earlier to go home for the holidays.

I also remember the fun we had on the bus saying goodbye to everyone on the Bonanza Bus Lines or Greyhound, and
then after the holiday break seeing everyone again, as they got on the same bus and we all went back to
IHM together and then calling when we got there and Fr Mike would come pick us up and how glad we were to see each other again.

Cheering for our team

Whether it was basketball, baseball or football, we all cheered for our team, the BLAZERS.

I remember the cheer,

HERE WE GO BLAZERS HERE WE GO

HERE WE GO BLAZERS HERE WE GO

Field Trips

I wont forget the trrips we took, whether it was in to town, we also went bowling,
during my freshman year we did a adopt a grandparent program at the nearby nursing home as well as going there during the holdiays and putting on a show,

Another trip i can remember was to the Norman Rockwell Museum, it was a very interesting learning experience.

GOING FOR ICE CREAM ON SATURDAY NIGHTS

Can anyone forget those trips we use to make into town, they would take us in the van on a saturday night and we would go to FRIENDLY’s ICE CREAM PARLOR

Pithing the frogs-Biology Class

sophomore year, we had to dissect frogs in biology. of couse, I was very interested and volunteers to get up early and help Mr Allen “Pith (or Pithe)” the frogs for live dissection. This precedure virtually is supposed to numb the nerve system of the frogs completey by destroying most of the spinal cord. We had quite a few we had to do before breakfast in order for them to be prepared for class later in the morning. All went according to plan and when classtime came around, we were all excited and prepared. what we had to do, was actually dissect the frogs and part of the procedure was to count the heartbeats. The frogs were supposed to be totally free of pain and any nerves. All was going according to plan when suddenly the frog that Joe Adams was working on, decided to jump off the table. Imagine the surprise when one partially dissected, pain free frog, decided the hop off the lab table since it didnt look like the top of his favorite lilly pad…..
the frog was eventually retrieved, pithed again and the operation went on as planned, although there was some talk about “WHO WAS IT?” that helped set the frog up in the first place. I am not sure if anyone ever really knew, but lets say, I did not enter the medical field. I left that to my collegue and friend Chris Diaz…..
sorry about that Joe….laughing

The case of the crusty underwear

One winter evening in 1979 after evening chapel, the juniors proceeded up to the dorm area along with father Mike. The situation already prepared earlier in the day with a clean sweeping of the dorms. When Lo and behold a crusty underwear came from underneath the bed of a rather portly young gentlemen junior. This underwear was filled with the daily passing of digestive food. The underwear (no Kidding) had to way 1.5 lbs. was found relativily hard by now. The sweepers whose names will be kept from this historical narratve had a plan. The heating duct above the portly mans bed was used to hang this underwear near the vent which would blow out heat into the dorm area. Hours have passed till after chapel. As the juniors proceeded along with father Mike up the stairs they were faced with an odor which father mike stated ” This dorm smells worse than a stable ” Father mike and several students searched the dorm to see where this odor was coming from. Father Mike angrily stated that the juniors would be scrubbing every each of this dorm till this smell is gone. when marching down the hall from the showers was the portly Young lad who upon entering said loudly “what is that smell ugghhhh” then within a moment one junior pointed toward the ceiling and screamed out ” it`s —– underwear! “as the student body proceeded to have a closer look Their in deep black magic indelible marker the portly young gentleman name was clearly evident. The dorm was hysterical and Father Mike trying to hold back Laughter took off for the stairs and the matter was never brought up. The case of the smelly dorm was over and the sweepers never found a underwear like that again
